Leaving with the same sadness and depression that the day after Christmas brings, the 24th Annual AVN awards have come to a close. I can only imagine the pure insanity of the expo and all of that naughty flesh cavorting around the convention center. Am I jealous? Maybe just a little bit.
There were lots of categories and an equal number of winners and sure, a lot of losers too. But let’s not talk about them! Some who walked out with those shiny Lucite statues included a couple of firsts for the AVN Awards this year, including Tristan Taormino becoming the first woman to win Best Gonzo Release for her reality tv show-styled release Chemistry. Buck Angel also made history by becoming the first female-to-male transsexual to win Transsexual Performer of the Year.
Both Taormino and Dana Dane (who was awarded Best All-Girl Series for Erocktavision) have each previously been awarded an Emma, the feminist porn awards handed out in Toronto in June of 2006 - Taormino for Hottest Anal Adventure for her movie House of Ass, and Dane won Indie Porn Pioneer, also for Erocktavision.)
